“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” — Wayne Gretzky
Sometimes uncertainty and overcoming our fears can be terrifying but one thing that’s even more terrifying is the possibility of being stuck in the same place for the rest of our lives. No one wants to live with the pain of unmet expectations, unfulfilled dreams, untapped potential, what-ifs, should- haves, would-haves. Deep down inside we all desire the fulfillment of seeing every dream and goal in our hearts accomplished. But, is any of that even possible without taking risk? Although taking risk can be scary the bright side of it, is that you either win, or you learn because even if you fail the wisdom you gain through experience puts you ahead in your journey.
The fear of taking risk can keep us stuck in the same place. One thing i’ve discovered is if we don’t step out and take risk we are actually risking the opportunities that we could have by not taking the risk. So either way we are risking something but the difference is stepping out is motivated by faith and staying at the same place is motivated by fear.
Not all risk are great risk to take, if the risk involves putting our lives in danger than we should avoid taking the risk at all cost. If this risk is leading us closer to accomplishing a goal than we should definitely go for it.
“When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.”
So why is it important to take risk:
1.) Taking Risk leads to opportunity
Taking risk is not always easy but as we step out and overcome our fears it positions us for opportunity. Taking risk give us the chance to learn, fail, grow and try new things. As you grow and become more confident opportunities that you wouldn’t have imagined begins to open up for you.
2.) Taking risk helps you grow
New experiences gives us the opportunity to learn and develop our skills. As we step out we gain a greater understanding of things we need to change and things we can keep doing that will help us be successful. Taking risk grows our perspective of life and gives us a greater understanding of the possibilities that are ahead.
3.) Taking risk leads to success
There is no such thing as being successful without taking risk. If you want something you’ve never had you’ll have to do somethings that you’ve never done and that require risk.
“Progress always involves risks. You can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.” — Frederick Wilcox
I just want to encourage you, don’t be afraid to step out and take risk. There are so many things we can discover and so many possibilities we could reach if we just give things that we are afraid of a try. Don’t allow fear to keep you stuck in the same place. Overcome fear by stepping out.
