Using What You Have

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

We were all created uniquely with the ability to do certain things well. There are certain things that you can do really well that others can’t and certain things that others can do, that you can’t do well. Although we are all unique and different, the gifts, talents and strengths we have all serve a purpose in us living out our purpose.

What would happen if we really begin to use the gifts, talents and strengths we have? Often times we wait or put off going after the dreams in our hearts due to us not recognizing or using what we already have. Think about the things that you are really good at? How can  you use the gifts and talents you already have to help you to get on track to reaching your goals and accomplishing your dreams? Why put off doing tomorrow the things you can accomplish today?

Imagine what would happen if we just started working on the things we want to accomplish instead of waiting for our skills to be perfect. Sometimes just using what you already have and starting will help you develop, build and discover the steps to take and the skills you need.

Why is it important that we use what we already have?

1. What you have is enough

We all have gifts and talents that we use everyday. When we are faithful in using what we have and just starting where we are, as we step out we will gain the courage and knowledge to continue to get better. The more we use what we have the more confident we become and the more experience we gain in developing what we already have.

2. The more you step out the more you grow

The more we step out and use the gifts and talents we have the more we grow as a person. If you think about some of the greatest athletes and their journey to becoming the greatest, it’s never something that instantly happened overnight. Those athletes started with the gifts and talents they had and as the used what they had and continued to practice and grow they gained more knowledge and skill in perfecting their craft.

3. The more you grow the further you will go

The more you grow in using your gifts and talents the further you will go in accomplishing your dreams. Sometimes we don’t step out or start working towards our dreams because we may not know all the steps to take. But as you start where you are and just use what you have the steps and the answers will come. You don’t have to have all the answers or have everything figured out. If you use what you have and do what you can you will discover the answers that you need.

I want to challenge and encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, use the gifts and talents that you already have and move forward in accomplishing your dreams. The more you step out the more you will grow, and the more you grow the further you’ll go.

“Romans 12:6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”
