Notice the Good. Show Gratitude!

Do you remember the days when you would dream about the things you have now? Look at how far you’ve come! Sometimes it easy to forget and overlook the good things that are taking place in your life, when you’re overwhelmed with the responsibilities and pressures that come with everyday life. But, taking time to notice and recognize the good will challenge you think differently about some of the things you are currently experiencing. 

On last year around this time I remember being quarantined with Covid-19 for seven weeks. It was such a difficult season and moment in my life. On yesterday, I celebrated another year of life and experience a good time with my family. It was such a blessed birthday experience. Reflecting on this helped me to see how grateful I am for life and everything God has given me. My life hasn’t been perfect but taking time to recognize the good has really changed me. When you know what it feels like to be quarantined all by yourself, you experience a different type of joy and gratitude when you are finally able to celebrate a special moment with others again. I was so emotional this whole week just thinking about what a blessing it is to be able to celebrate again.

Twenty, twenty was such a difficult year for so many people but one thing it has taught me is how to look for the good and still be grateful. I have been applying that lesson in this new year and it has truly blessed my life. Sometimes our society can be so forward focused and consumed with what’s next, that it becomes easy to overlook the beauty of what’s now. I make it my goal everyday to reflect on something that I am grateful for no matter how small it made be. I woke up this morning and I am grateful. I have food to eat, clothes to wear, a family, freedom to worship God, and so much more.

My challenge to you is to take a moment to think about the things you are grateful for. Reflect on those things and watch how it begins to fill you with so much joy. That’s the power of noticing the good it fills you with so much joy and hope. You may not have everything you want, but what are the beautiful things that you do have right now?

As I have reflected on these things, this is what I have learned about noticing the good:

  1. The good gets better

Noticing the good will change your perspective. When I look back at all I have overcame in the last year it really helps me to appreciate what I have and where I am now. It forces me to think differently and live differently. I remember that time when I wasn’t able to celebrate so I am more appreciative of my current moments.

2. It helped me to see opportunities rather than obstacles

Being quarantined for that period of time really changed me. I left that season of life a totally different person. I had so much time to grow in my relationship with God and as a person. I learned how to practice self-care and had a lot of time for reflecting on what I wanted my life to look like. Although it felt like and obstacle it was a growth opportunity for me personally.

3. It helps me to focus on the important things in life 

When you take time to notice the good you begin to realize the things that really matter to you. It helps you to be more present so that you can experience the goodness of those things.

Take time today to notice the good things in your life. What are the things you are grateful for. How has those things changed your life? Don’t ever forget how blessed you are. I pray that you would notice the goodness in your life and that you would be filled with so much joy and hope for your future. Don’t ever give up! Reflect, and appreciate the good that’s right before your eyes. Thank you so much for reading!

  1. Wow, thanks for sharing. Especially your experience with being in quarantine for 7 weeks because of Covid-19, but most importantly your time to reflect on you with God’s presence.

    You survived and now have so much more to share with others and personally reflect on your overall health and wellness. Every day we wake up is a special day to be thankful for. We have to think of the present moment with our blessings. This will lead us to all good.

    Glad that your children and husband were there for you in spirit. I am sure it was difficult being separated from them in person for such a long time.

    All is good now. God is Great.

    I am thankful that I am healthy and have my family and new friends like you in my life to share all of our joys.
