“Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Change isn’t always easy. It takes a lot of hard work, intentionality, time, sacrifice, perseverance and everyday commitment in order to see results. It may be hard, but it’s truly worth fighting for. The pursuit of change gives you the opportunity to create a better future and live the life you dream. I think about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on this day and the example of how he fought for change, and wasn’t afraid to dream in the mist of all the uncertainty he had to live through. Everyday was a fight for him, but he believed in what he wanted so much that he was willing to do whatever it took. He was willing to keep fighting because of the future it could create for not only him but also generations to come.
What if he would have stopped fighting for his dreams because it got too hard? What if he would have called it quit’s in the beginning because of all the sacrifice his dream required? Would you be able to experience some of the freedoms and opportunities that you are apart of today? How different would our world be today? How different would your life be today? Your ability to fight to create change for your life is not only connected to you but the generations after you. What are the things you want see happen in your life? Do you believe they can happen? Are you willing to put in the work and fight for your dreams everyday?
Change is coming, and it is possible if you are willing to keep working towards it. It doesn’t happen overnight but it can happen overtime if you are committed to fighting for it. I’ve been sharing a lot of my personal growth journey over the years and the transformation i’ve experienced has been phenomenal, but it didn’t come without a cost. Four years ago I made a commitment to be intentional about my life and the future I wanted to create. I made a commitment to grow mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically becoming the best version of myself. Over the years I’ve read so many books, took personal growth classes, joined accountability groups, etc. I learned so much and made it my goal to apply everything that I learned. The commitment to learning and growing created massive change for me but this change didn’t happen overnight, it happened through the small steps that I took everyday.
These steps include planning out my days, creating routines and executing the plan daily. Everyday hasn’t been perfect but I remember my purpose and keep pushing forward. As you work towards change everyday it will eventually become a lifestyle. There are times when days were hard and I didn’t feel like executing the plan, but I didn’t quit. I just allowed myself space to grow and continued the next day. I learned to be flexible with my approach to the plan because sometimes life doesn’t always go as planned and it requires you to adjust. Sometimes I’ve had days where I had to adjust because of unexpected things that happened in life with kids and doctors visits, but I didn’t allow my bad days to define me or the goals I have. One thing I’ve learned is to keep moving forward no matter what.
One of my areas of focus lately has been my physical health. I share a lot about this area of my life because it’s easier for people to see the results. I crushed my weight loss goal last year but it was not at all easy. When I think of the process of this health journey and all it requires the one word that comes to mind is “hard.” But, although it’s hard the process has been life changing. I’ve been on this health journey for over a year now and it has helped me to get better in every area of my life because it has taught me the power of discipline and commitment and its taught me that I am capable of doing hard things. It has helped me to see that change is possible if I really am intentional and work at it everyday. I’ve seen with my own eyes that change is possible and that change is continuing to come as I am committed to keep working. These are some things I’ve learned over the years about change:
1.) Change takes time
Change is a process and you have to be willing to trust and work the process in order to see results.
2.) Change takes courage
Change is hard. It takes courage to try and get fight through hard things. It take courage to get comfortable being uncomfortable.
3.) Change takes intentionality
In order to see change you have to be intentional about what you do everyday. Be intentional about what you want to see and create habits and actions that reflect that.
4.) Change takes commitment
You have to be committed to following through even when things get difficult. Without true commitment nothing will happen.
Change is coming! Keep fighting for your future. The process of bettering yourself will be hard at times but it is not impossible. Make a commitment to fight for your future, work at it everyday, be intentional and give it time. You can have the life you dream of if you work to create it. There is a verse that encourages me so much in 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 “So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to other I myself might be disqualified. The part about running with purpose in every steps challenges me to be intentional about my life and living out my God given purpose, it helps me to understand that change is possible if I keep working at it. Thanks so much for reading! I hope this encourages you.
