Have you ever wanted to accomplish something that seemed out of reach? What is that thing? Do you believe it can happen? Are you willing to trust the process even when it doesn’t look like what you pictured?
Life doesn’t always look like what you’ve pictured, but you can trust that with time and intentionality things will change. Sometimes the things you desire, requires time. The period of time you spend waiting and working is preparing you for what you asked for. It’s not always easy to wait when we live in a society where we can have access to things in an instant, but sometimes the wait is a blessing in disguise.
The wait and the process is what grows you the most. When you wait for something for a long time you are more appreciative of it when you get it. My health journey has been a long process and a great example of this. The process has been hard because of all the learning and unlearning I have had to do. When you’ve lived your whole life one way it’s hard to break habits that you’ve been doing in a short period of time. It really does take time. I have had to learn the basics of consistency, discipline, nutrition on top of everything else that comes with taking better care of yourself. In the beginning of the process I struggled so much with losing weight and it was often times discouraging. It seems like it took me forever to break out of the 150 weight range, but as I kept showing up and working the process even through the imperfect days, a year later I am still on this journey and stronger than ever. I surpassed my goal of 135 before the end of the year and moved on to a new goal. I look back and I realized it was all really a process that took a lot of hard work and patience with myself.
What helped me to get the desired results? I had to continue to adjust things until I discovered what worked best to help me reach my goal. I had to learn the proper way to workout, eat right and put systems in place to help me stay on track. That took a lot of time and learning. One thing I have discovered is that, “Random actions will get you random results. I had to get on a workout plan and research the proper foods to eat to get me where I wanted to be. This was all apart of the process. I would have never learned my need for a plan if I would have never gotten frustrated with not making progress. Sometimes even the frustrations serves a purpose.
One thing this process has been teaching me is that results don’t happen overnight but they do over time. If I would have given up in the beginning I would have never been able to experience the progress and transformation I am currently experiencing. I’ve been at this health journey for over a year now and it’s been changing my life not just physically but mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It’s challenged me to get better in other areas of my life because I know that if I can maintain the discipline and consistency that comes with this health journey I can do the same in other areas. My goal is to become the best version of myself. This transformation that I am starting to experience has been a hard process. The process looked nothing like I pictured and I was often frustrated and disappointed because I wasn’t getting results. One thing I now realize is that the frustration and disappointment I experienced is what pushed me to find solutions.
Sometimes the process of what you are going through is developing you more than you realize. The frustration that you maybe experiencing is forcing you to change until you find what works for you. Being at a place where you feel uncomfortable is putting you in position to grow. It’s not always easy to trust the process but you have to trust that it’s really working for your good. In order to trust you have to change the way you look at the things you experience. When I think of all the things I’ve experienced through this process these are the things that have helped me to continue to trust the process:
1.) Remember why you started
What drives you to do what you do? Ask yourself that question often and always keep it in the front of your mind. Reflect on your purpose as much as possible.
2.) Remember that failure is not in falling down but in staying down
You will experience failure in the process of reaching your goals but you can’t allow that failure to stop you from moving forward. Learn for your mistakes and grow from them. “Mistakes are really proof that you are trying.
3.) Remember that results take time
Give it time! It takes time to learn all the things that will help you reach your goals. Think of how long it took you to learn all the information you now know.
4.) Remember that Consistency is key
Keep on going. Don’t stop when it gets hard. Consistency is key to getting you to where you want to be. One step at a time one day at a time.
I just want to encourage you to keep working and trusting the process. As you keep moving forward you will begin to see results and those results will make everything worth it.
