“Self-Reflection is a humbling process. It’s essential to find out why you think, say, and do certain things……then better yourself.”

Self-Reflection. What is Self-Reflection? Its meditation or serious thought about one’s character, actions, and motives. It is also like looking in the mirror and describing exactly what you see. It’s a powerful way to stay in tune with who you are currently, so that you can make adjustments to who you are becoming. Becoming….when I hear that word it makes me think of how everything you do today is building your future. So it’s important to take time throughout your day to reflect on your actions, thoughts and words because they create your future.
Self-reflection is important because sometimes you may experience certain situations or circumstances that taint the way you see life and it’s important to take time to process, and ask yourself questions so you don’t allow your experience to detour or derail your destiny. The questions that you ask yourself and the clarity you gain through reflection will give you insight on how to move forward.
When was the last time you took a step back to reflect on your life? How are you doing? How do you really feel? What’s been consuming your mind? It’s good to ask yourself questions and to take time and discover whats really going on inside of you, because whatever you are experiencing on the inside will manifest on the outside. If you’re filled with chaos and confusion on the inside , it will show on the outside and vice versa.
I think self-reflection is such a powerful tool to keep you mentally and emotionally strong. I like to take time every night, five or ten minutes just to sit by myself think and write down whats going on in my mind. I ask myself questions like, “How do I feel today?” “Why do I feel this way?” “Whats a good thing that happened today?” “Whats something I want to improve?” This helps to keep me in tune with myself and give me insight on the things I need to change.
I recently encountered a situation that will change the way I do life for awhile. My first emotions were sadness and disappointment but I know I can’t always control that things that happen in my life but I can control how I respond. As I really took time to reflect on my feeling and ask myself questions, I noticed that my perspective shifted. I couldn’t allow what I experienced to cause me to get down and depressed, I am in control of how I feel and what I allow. So instead of getting down and depressed, I’m choosing too stay hopeful and encouraged. Writing down how I’m feeling, focusing on the positive things in this season, choosing to grow and finding ways to be creative and get refreshed. I’ll have moments that are hard but in those moments I’m learning to acknowledge how I feel, taking time to understand and process then finding solutions to help me know how to move forward.
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
