“The willingness to show up changes us. It makes us a little braver each time.”
-Brene Brown
What if your ability to keep showing up and putting in the work is the only thing standing in-between your dreams becoming reality? Imagine how much closer you would be in a month, or six months if you challenged yourself to show up. Sometimes what you are working so hard for is not as distant as it may seem. What would happen if you did one thing everyday to work towards your dreams? How much closer would you be? Challenge yourself to show up and fight for what you want, because your dreams matter and they are worth fight for.
A huge part of being successful at anything is consistently showing up. It’s the habits of everyday that’s creating your future. It’s easy to set a goal, but it takes consistent action and effort to reach it. Think about one small positive habit that you do everyday and the value that it adds to your life. What would happen if you do one small thing to work towards your goals everyday?
I remember my time working as an independent living skills coach for a mental health organization, I made a commitment to always show up early for every appointment and be fully prepared. I knew the value I would be able to bring to people by consistently showing up and being prepared. Consistency was a huge part of developing a great relationship and really making a difference. There was one experience that really shaped me. I went to an appointment with a teenaged girl who I mentored and she greeted me with such a huge smile. This moment was different because she usually wasn’t smiling or excited about us meeting. She said something to me the I would never forget. She said, “I have never had anyone show up for me like you have shown up for me.” That made me smile so big, because I really have a passion for seeing people who want to give up develop the courage and hope to keep going. But it also showed me the power of showing up.
A few months after that encounter I was offered a supervisors position and was able to lead a team full of people with the same heart and passion to see lives change. One of the things I think that helped me so much during that time was my willingness to keep showing up and bringing my best. There were times where I was tired and even times where I really didn’t want to show up, but I knew that showing up was such an important part of seeing change.
This year I have seen the power of showing up through my fitness journey. I was able to reach my weight-loss goal this year because of my willing to showing up. Everyday I work towards my goal by, eating healthy, drinking water and exercising. The days aren’t always perfect but I have built a routine for myself that consistently allows me to show up. The more I show up everyday the more progress I make towards my goal. If there is something you desire to see changed in your life I want to challenge you to commit to work on it everyday. The more time and space you create to show up the more it will change your life.
These are some things I have learned about showing up:
1.) Showing up helps you to build courage
The more you do, the more you realize you can do. If you keep doing the same things it will help you to build confidence and courage to keep going.
2.) Showing up consistently builds trust
When you show up it helps you to build trust with people but also with yourself. The more you trust yourself the more you willing be willing step out and do what’s in your heart because you know yourself best and what you bring to the table.
3.) Showing up changes the future
The more you so up and are intentional with working towards your goal that more ti changes you future. Change begins one small step at a time and if you keep showing up so will see the progress overtime.
These personal experiences have taught me that there is so much power in showing up. When you show up you are not only impacting your life but also the lives of the people around you. It’s not always easy to see the difference you are making at times and you may feel like the work you do is not really appreciated. But, I want to encourage you to keep showing up!
One day what you are working and believing so hard for will happen. Think about the things you’ve worked so hard for in the past that you were able accomplish. If it happened in the past it can surely happen again. I hope this really encourages you. Don’t give up, in due season what you’ve been working so hard for will happen. Thanks for reading!
