“Everyday is a new beginning. Treat it that way. Stay away from what might have been, and look at what can be.”
-Marsha P. Sue
Have you ever felt like it was too late to start working towards something you’ve been thinking about for a long time? Maybe you’ve had a certain plan or goal and things didn’t turn out the way you expected. Where do you go from there? How do you motivate yourself to start again? How do you motivate yourself to continue to dream and push towards your goals despite how you feel? Do you just give up on doing the things you said you would do, or do you figure out a way to push forward and make it happen?
It’s never too late to start again! Learning to adjust in a constantly changing world is essential to truly making things happen. This year has constantly challenged me to adjust in ways I would have never imagined and it’s taught me the importance of focus, intentionality, and awareness. Despite all that I have faced this year I still think often about the goals I set at the beginning of this year. It’s easy to get towards the end of the year and feel like things are over and you’ll just have to start again next year, but why not just start now? Everyday is a new day and a new opportunity to start fresh.
One thing I have been learning is that you don’t have to wait for a new year to start something. Why not just start today? Start where you are, use what you have and be confident in what you bring to the table. Often times it takes a shift in your mindset to get you on the right track, just as i talked about in my blog post last week. Adjusting your mindset is what puts you in position to make things happen. I started my weight loss journey in the middle of 2020. I didn’t make a lot of progress or reach my goal but it was the fact that I tried and I started that help position me to be successful. It was a process and starting the process helped me to learn to make adjustments and try new things in order to better position myself to reach my goal. I started again at the beginning of this year and I made a lot of changes and also got on a workout plan. I reached my weight loss goal on last month. During the process I was learning to push myself forward. I had to understand that in order to reach my goal I had to keep working at it. Great things don’t happen overnight but they do happen overtime if you keep working.
How did I push myself forward to make things happen? First I remembered many of the past victories I had and it gave me hope that the process will be worth it. Secondly, I reflected often on the purpose of why I wanted to accomplish my goal and how it would help me to be the best version of myself. Lastly, I reminded myself that what I do everyday builds overtime and if I want to see transformation happen I have to work on it everyday and one day I will see the results I am hoping for. Which is exactly what I have seen. I started where I was and I pushed forward with hope and confidence. Pushing forward and not giving up just because things didn’t turn out right the first time is what helped me succeed. That was the motivation I needed to keep going.
These are some ways I have learned to push forward to make things happen:
- Focus
“Where your focus goes energy flows.” As I pushed forward I challenged myself to focus on my goal and take steps forward. I thought about the little things I could do everyday to help me reach my goals such as drinking enough water, eating healthy and walking so that I could have enough energy to complete my daily workouts
2. Intentionality
In order to reach your goal you have to be intentional about the things you do everyday. Ask yourself what can you do today to help you stay on track with reaching your goal. Being intentional about my workout times helped to create a rhythm for my week.
3. Awareness
Know where you are and what you need in order to push forward. Being aware of what you need helps you to know how to push forward. When I am aware of where I am, and the progress I have made it motivates me to push forward. For my fitness journey I weighed myself often and did certain workouts to track my progress.
Focus, intentionality and awareness can help you push forward in truly making things happen. It’s never too late to step out and start on the things in your heart. It’s easy to allow the problems and circumstances of everyday life to get in the way of the very things you need to continually motivate you through life. Don’t give up on your dreams! Some seasons may be harder than others but remind yourself that you can do hard things. Don’t allow the obstacles you face to cause you to lose that sparkle in your eyes. That sparkle represents the passions and desires you have. Focus on the controllable, start again if you have to and push yourself to make it happen. Dreams do come true if you continually move forward and put in the work. Don’t stop when things get hard, push yourself forward because you are capable! Thanks so much for reading.

Love this! You’re so right about intentionality. It’s not enough to set goals; you have to be intentional about your actions if you want to reach the goals!
