“Change your thinking, and you will change your life.”
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Mindset matters?” I’ve heard it plenty of times, through my fitness journey and it has proven to be true. Your mindset truly does matter. What you think and believe, you will achieve. So why not think and believe for great things to happen?
These last few years I made it a goal to dream big dreams for my life and expect for great things to happen. As a result of that, I have seen so many of the great things that I expected to see. Traveling the world has been one of my biggest goals since I was a kid and these last few years I have visited six new states. Those baby steps forward towards my dreams have given me so much hope. The process didn’t start with me just writing it out, it started with me visualizing and believing that I could do what I put my mind to. I had to first prepare my mind to think and believe that I could achieve those things. Once I believed it, I made it a goal to work towards it.
One thing I have been learning through my fitness journey is that your mindset will take you far. I have had workouts that require me to lift heavy weights. When I first started lifting everything seemed impossible. I had to shift my thinking and remind myself that I had been preparing for this heavy lifting part of my journey. Even though it seemed hard and scary in the beginning, I was capable of so much more than I gave myself credit for. Sometimes you never know what you can do once you keep trying and have a willingness to grow and get better. This made me realize that everything is not always what it seems. Just because something looks impossible doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I had to shift my mindset to believe that I could, and try. These last few months I lifted my heaviest of 185lbs.
Life tends to be a lot like my weight lifting experience. You sometimes see situations that look impossible in the natural, but like Smith Wigglesworth said, “You can’t be moved by what you see, be moved by what you believe.” He was speaking in terms of having faith in God, which is so important in everyday life. But also having faith and believing in your ability to do and use what He has placed inside of you to accomplish the things you desire. Mindset really makes a difference. I have learned to challenge myself to think differently about situations that seem impossible by being optimistic and just trying.
These are some things I have learned about how to shift your mindset to believe you can achieve something:
1.) Focus on your “why”
Always remember the purpose behind what you are doing and reflect on it often. Use that as motivation to keep pushing forward.
2.) Keep the goal in front of you
Always remember the goal you want to achieve. For example, If someone brought a brand new car and told you that in order to get the new car you have to show up to work everyday for a year. You will make sure to do whatever is in your power to show up everyday so that you can receive that new car. That’s what keeping the goal in front of you does it shifts your mindset to get the job done.
3.) Focus on the facts and not your feelings
Feelings can often be misleading so it’s important to focus on that facts as you are moving towards your goals. For example, I have been weight lifting for almost a year now so the fact is I am a lot stronger than I use to be. I may look at some weights and feel like it’s too heavy, instead of focusing on how I feel I should just try anyway and remember that I have been preparing for it.
“Change your thinking change your life.” Don’t be afraid to shift your mindset. When you feel like something is impossible I want to challenge you to begin to think about the situation differently. Focus on what you can control and be optimistic and positive that you will see the results your desire. You can truly achieve what you put your mind to if you focus on your why, remember the goal and focus on the facts. Go after the things you want. It’s never too late to start again.
