“Every day the clock resets. Your wins don’t matter. Your failures don’t matter. Don’t stress on what was, fight for what could be.”
-Sean Higgins
Have you ever been on the verge of reaching a goal? You’ve made so much progress and come so far, how do you push yourself forward to accomplish it? It seems like the closer you get to your goal the harder you will have to fight to get to the finish line. It’s like when you are in a race and you are nearing the finish line, you can see it, you can feel it near but it requires you push and give everything you have to finish. It requires you to dig deep to the energy reserves you didn’t quite know you had. Or at least I must say that has been my experience when I get closer to reaching my goals.
A few years ago around this time I was on the verge of reaching my health goal. I ended up reaching my goal before the end of last year and it changed my life and the way I think about health. In January of 2021, I made a commitment to become the best version of myself and I am still going strong on this health journey. This year I have a goal of losing ten pounds and building core and upper body strength. This years goals have challenged me so much but I know that if I have done it before I can do it again. My entire health journey has taught me that if you really want something you have to keep working at it everyday. What you want is possible and it’s never too late to start and start again if you have to.
Have you ever felt like it was too late to start working towards something you’ve been thinking about for a long time? Maybe you’ve had a certain plan or goal and things didn’t turn out the way you expected. Where do you go from there? How do you motivate yourself to start again? How do you motivate yourself to continue to dream and push towards your goals despite your shortcomings? Do you just give up on doing the things you said you would, or do you figure out a way to push forward and make it happen?
It’s never too late to start again! Learning to adjust in a constantly changing world is essential to truly making things happen. This year has constantly challenged me to adjust and it’s taught me the importance of focus, intentionality, and self awareness. Despite all that I’ve faced this year I still think often about the goals I set at the beginning of this year. It’s easy to allow the year to go by and get discouraged because you haven’t started or maybe you’ve given up. Everyday is a new day and a new opportunity to start fresh. You don’t have to wait another month or even another year. You can start today and work towards the things that are in your heart.
In 2020, I started working towards my health goal and I didn’t make much progress at all, but I was determined to keep trying. It took me so much time to get to the place where I am now. The process has been hard and I have had to learn a lot of things in the process. It took me a lot of learning and searching for answers to help me understand what I needed to do in order to reach my goal. I had to make a lot of adjustments. I learned about the importance of getting on a workout plan, I learned about the right things I needed to eat in order to reach my goal. Sometimes reaching your goals requires a lot of learning and unlearning things. So don’t get discouraged if you haven’t yet reached where you want to be. Take some time to discover what will help you move forward so you can push yourself in the right direction.
This health journey has been life changing for me because it’s teaching me that I am capable of so much more. This challenges me mentally to fight for what I want in other areas of my life. I am learning to push myself beyond my self imposed limits. Just when I think I have given everything I have during a workout, I push myself a little more and I start to see that I am capable of so much more. I had to break beyond the limits I set in my mind. There are so many things you can reach if you truly push beyond your limits. The process may be uncomfortable and it may require a lot of sacrifice but when you see results you realize it’s all worth it.
These are some tips that helped me to push forward in the process
- Focus
“Where your focus goes energy flows.” Focus is critical in reaching any goal. Focus on the little things you can do everyday to get you closer to your goal.
2. Intentionality
Create space and time to do the things that will keep you on track to reaching your goals. Being intentional about my workout times helped to create a rhythm for my week.
3. Awareness of where you are in the process
Be aware of where you are in the process of reaching your goals. Take time to discover what you need to help you stay on the path of moving forward.
Focus, intentionality and awareness can help you push forward in truly making things happen. It is never too late to step out and start what’s been in your heart. It’s easy to allow the problems and circumstances of everyday life to get in the way of the very things you need to continually motivate you through life. Don’t give up on your dreams! Some seasons may be harder than others but remind yourself that you can do hard things. Don’t allow the obstacles you face to cause you to lose that sparkle in your eyes, that represents the things you desire so much. Focus on the controllable, start again if you have to and push yourself to make it happen. Dreams do come true if you continually move forward and put in the work. Don’t stop when things get hard, push yourself forward.
